Youth Opportunities To Serve

JR. YOUTH GROUP

jryouthphoto

Children in 3rd to 5th grade meet monthly for Jr. Youth Activities. The purpose of Jr. Youth group is to introduce our elementary school children to youth activities and mission projects. Jr. youth group provides an opportunity for students to socialize with peers outside of Sunday School. The Jr. Youth Group often assists the Senior Youth with mission projects and events. Join us for fellowship and fun while we play games, make crafts, go bowling, and more.

SENIOR YOUTH GROUP

Teens in 6th to 12th grade meet twice monthly and provides teens a safe, non-judgmental environment where everyone can be themselves. Our mission is to serve our community through mission projects such as the annual Pot Pie Dinner, Souper Bowl of Caring, Famine Lock in for Hunger, Coats for Kids Sake, Little Acts of Love and more. Teens participate in Regional and National Youth Events through UCC Penn Southeast conference, have sleep overs, pizza parties, Christmas caroling, and help the food pantry. The Senior Youth members who are in high school also participate in #Christian Crew on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15AM.

MOVIE NIGHT

Movie night is offered twice a year in the fall and the spring. A fun night of kid fellowship complete with snacks, p.j,’s, blankets and pillows to view a fun, family movie.

LOWER HEIDELBERG PACK 423

Pack 423 sponsored by St. John’s (Hain’s) is one the oldest continuous Packs in Berks County. Pack 423 has been serving the youth of Lower Heidelberg area as well as many other communities since 1957. We support our communities through participation in Scouting for Food, Memorial Day Parade, Halloween Parade, Flag Day ceremonies at the Heidelberg Heritage Society and by decorating the graves of our honored Veterans. We offer many opportunities for the Scout to experience new adventures with the Pack including sleepovers on the USS Yorktown, USS New Jersey USS Intrepid as well as Franklin Institute. Our camping experience includes trips to Niagara Falls, Rickets Glen State Park, Williamsburg, Fort Miffilin, and most recently Raccoon State Park. The Webelos II Den is rewarded at the end of their Cub Scout career with a trip of their choosing. For more information about Cub Scout Pack 423 contact Mike Martin at email address iluvbaseball1@netzero.com.

LOWER HEIDELBERG TROOP 423

In 1957, St. John’s (Hain’s) was asked and agreed to sponsor Boy Scout Troop 423 of Lower Heidelberg Township. Since that time, the troop has continued to grow and prosper. 16 scouts are currently registered, including 2 Eagle Scouts; 5 scouts have earned the Life rank, one with his Eagle application pending. Meetings are held most Sunday afternoons in the basement of the band shell in the church grove. We are fortunate to have the use of Camp Davis, approximately 9 1/2 wooded acres situated in both Heidelberg and North Heidelberg Townships, for campouts. For more information on Boy Scout Troop 423, contact William G. Koch, Jr. at Wgkjr@wgkcpa.com
